Indicative Freight Estimates
A quote only tells half the story without the freight. Product quote requests can frame the landed cost before they are sent — an indicative ocean range and transit time for the lane, captured with the request and visible to both sides.
Price the Lane First
Set the quantity, the delivery location and how the shipment loads — 40ft or 20ft containers with a count, or palletised big bags — and the estimate runs from the seller's port of loading to your delivery point.
Saved With the Request
The range and transit time are stored on the request, so the seller opens it with the same figures and both sides negotiate from one picture. Freight moves, so a buyer can re-check a pending request — and changing the quantity, location or load basis clears a stale figure.
Indicative, Never Binding
Estimates come from Freightos and are indicative only — never a bookable rate. Where a lane has no published rate, or the calculator is busy, the panel says so plainly and the request still goes through, with the seller pricing freight directly.
Product requests carry the estimate; service requests are priced by the provider. The freight line never replaces the seller's offer — it is a reference point for the negotiation.
Order Confirmation & Trade Documents
Accepting a quote turns it into a tracked order — and the paperwork follows automatically. Each order carries four branded documents as downloadable PDFs, generated from the order's own details: the parties, the agreed terms, the shipment, and the salt's technical specification.
Order Confirmation
The agreed deal on one page: seller and buyer, order number, date and incoterms, the priced line items with the goods value, any agreed tax and duty lines and the grand total, delivery location and delivery window stated in days, the shipment's port of loading and port of discharge with the agreed packaging, and the full technical specification of the salt.
Proforma Invoice
The same priced record issued before shipment — used for payment approval, letters of credit, and customs pre-clearance. It carries the goods value, the agreed tax and duty lines with the grand total, both parties' tax or VAT numbers, and the shipment ports and packaging alongside the specifications.
Commercial Invoice
The final priced invoice for the goods once shipped: the priced line items, the goods value with the agreed tax and duty lines and the grand total, both parties' tax or VAT numbers, delivery terms, shipment ports and packaging, and the product specification.
Packing List
A price-free document for the warehouse and customs: what is being shipped, how it is packed, and the salt's specification — with extraction method and certifications listed alongside purity for quick reference.
Port names are checked against a seaport reference and printed in their verified form, and every document is built from the specification captured when the quote was requested — so later edits to a listing never change a confirmed order's paperwork.
Insurance & Liability Cover
On CIF and CIP shipments the seller is responsible for cargo insurance — so liability cover now sits beside the compliance certificates in the Certificate Vault. Sellers record each policy once, buyers see it on the company profile, and every CIF or CIP order checks it automatically.
Liability Cover Types
Cargo / marine liability, warehouse & storage liability, P&I club cover, and transit insurance — each with the insurer or underwriter, the placing broker, the policy number, the coverage limit and how it applies (per shipment, per occurrence, or annual aggregate), and the territorial scope.
Verified by Salt.
Salt. reviews each policy with the issuer and adds a verified badge to the ones it has confirmed. Editing a verified policy returns it for review, so the badge always reflects the current wording of the cover.
Checked on Every CIF / CIP Order
Opening a CIF or CIP order shows the seller's cover alongside it, and warns when the policy is missing, expired, or the coverage limit is below the contract value. It is a warning, never a block — the trade still proceeds.
Policies follow the same expiry tracking as other certificates, with reminders 90, 30, and 7 days before they lapse. Certificate details — insurance included — are visible to logged-in buyers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Marketplace free to browse?
Yes. Anyone can browse listings and view details without an account.
What can I list on the Marketplace?
Commodity salt products (industrial, table, himalayan, road, etc.) and professional services (storage, transport, engineering, refining, and consultancy).
How do I request a quote?
Open any listing and click "Request Quote," then fill in your quantity, target price, delivery location, and incoterms.
How do I get an indicative freight estimate?
Start a quote request from a product listing or a company profile, set your quantity and delivery location, choose how the shipment loads (40ft or 20ft containers with a count, or palletised big bags), and press "Get Freight Estimate." The range and transit time run from the seller's port of loading to your delivery location, and appear beside the form before you send.
Is the freight estimate a booking?
No. It is an indicative range from Freightos — not a bookable rate and not a carrier quote; final freight is agreed with the seller. The figure is saved with your request so the seller sees it, and a buyer can re-check a pending request. If the lane has no published rate, or the calculator is busy, the request still goes through and the seller prices freight directly.
Are listings vetted?
Yes. Every product and service listing is reviewed and approved by an admin before appearing publicly.
What happens after a quote is accepted?
The accepted quote becomes a tracked order. Both parties follow it through confirmation, production, shipping and delivery, and can download the trade documents generated for it.
What trade documents are included with an order?
Every order comes with four downloadable PDFs: an Order Confirmation, a Proforma Invoice, a Commercial Invoice, and a Packing List — each populated from the order's own terms, shipment details, and product specification.
How are taxes and duties handled on an invoice?
They are agreed terms, recorded on the order by the seller: a tax name and rate (e.g. VAT), a duty or tariff name and rate, and an optional statement such as a reverse-charge note. The priced documents then print the goods value, each agreed line, and the grand total — nothing is looked up or calculated automatically, and an order with none agreed keeps a single total.
How does insurance cover work on CIF and CIP orders?
Sellers store their liability policies in the Certificate Vault. A CIF or CIP order then shows the seller's cover, and warns if it is missing, expired, or below the contract value — a warning only, it never blocks the trade.
Are insurance policies verified?
Yes. Salt. reviews uploaded policies with the issuer and marks the confirmed ones with a verified badge. Certificate details, insurance included, are visible to logged-in buyers.
